The day was a pleasant warm day with sun ,not hot but pleasant, with a little wind , so conditions were good for us sailing and we had a good display both in the marquee and on the water plus of cause the LAUNCH of our TALISMAN.
As usual the council provided a large variety of attractions , music, shire horses pulling a seated dray,
falcon display ( one flew over the pond and set the gulls in flight), displays by the fire brigade and land services
bouncy castles , various other displays, a mobile ski jump, teas provided by the bowling club, and the local
people turned out in large numbers and made a very good friendly day for all concerned
We had a good display of boats of all kinds in the marquee and one of our members spent the day with the children sailing two of our club tugs which they enjoyed .with a queue waiting to have a turn all afternoon
(thanks a lot Stephen for all your time and effort) We also had a tombola stall which raised a good sum for the club funds (thanks to Valerie and Helen) and a big thank you to Bettsy for the food and drinks all day.
The big event for us was the official launch and sailing of the Talisman .The launch was carried out by Declan the young son of the local councillor for Knightswood. Mr Paul Rooney
It consisted of our dockyard manager for the day , David, holding the boat stern on to the bank and our
Main builder holding the transmitter for the little boy to push the throttle stick forward and send the boat away on its first official sail . I was busy looking at the boat so could not get a photo of him doing this but got the boat
moving away.
So all in we had a great day with the visiting club members and the public who where asking about various
Boats and what is involved in building etc
Thanks to every one who came and made it a very good day.
