The opening sail report
This was the day we got out our mobile club room out for the first time this year. We had the perfect day as it was very sunny with just a light breeze, just enough for the sailers. By the time we had given the van its first wash
down of the year and moved it to our usual parking spot, it was about our usual start time.
Three members of one of our visiting clubs had arrived before us and were having fun with a Wee Nip yacht
It was felt that this was a good omen for the day as it proved.
By the time we had set up shop, tables, chairs, barrier up, more of our own members arrived with their boats.
Our chairman was sent up to the club room for fresh water for the important tea brewing, as he had been away this took some time for him to arrive back, as he had not seen the work on the Talisman for the past 3 weeks ( some folk are lucky to get long hols.).
During this time, members from two other clubs arrived. Glasgow Richmond and The Steamer Club, two of our members are also members of Elder Park club as well as us, in fact some of us are also members of Richmond , ( this is quite common in the city to belong to more than one club).
We also had the press present with us for the afternoon (one of the local free press) a reporter and photographer who spent their time talking to various members and taking photos, so in all we had a busy afternoon.
We had a good selection of boats on display and I saw most of them on the water at some time, I had to remind people to use the peg board as we are all guilty of forgetting to get a peg sometimes more so at the first sail, but a good time was had by all present with lots of tea consumed. The time time passed very quickly and it was soon 4-30 and time to start packing up.
Thanks to everyone for turning out and making our first sail a good one hope you all had a good afternoon
and caught up with all the chatter its surprising how much you get out of date when you do not see people over the winter
